Installing Config Server Firewall

We often get asked by our VPS customers how best they can protect their server from hackers and attacks. CSF includes integration with WHM and Webmin so you can manage your security with a simple point and click interface. CSF will detect and block port scans, DDOS, and brute force logins across many different services. CSF also includes configurable notifications so you can always see what is happening in real time with your security policy.

Downloading

cd /tmp
wget http://download.configserver.com/csf.tgz
tar -xzf csf.tgz

Running The Installer Script

cd csf
sh install.sh

When the installation script has completed check the required Perl modules are installed.

perl /usr/local/csf/bin/csftest.pl

Config Server Firewall will now function if no errors are reported.

After installing CSF testing mode will be active, all firewall rules will be flushed every five minutes. Once CSF has been taken out of testing mode the rules will persist as per the configuration. Testing mode can be disabled by switching it to “off” in the control panel interface or by editing the /etc/csf/csf.conf file and changing the testing setting

TESTING = "0"

Restart by pressing the CSF restart button in your control panel or from the command line

csf -r
